Exel by Merak is expanding its impact on the region’s gaming ecosystem, welcoming 19 startups into its second accelerator cohort, each receiving $300,000 in funding, full mentorship from global experts, and a program that now leans heavily into AI as it pushes studios toward global ambitions.

The Saudi-based accelerator’s second cohort spans mobile, PC, and console projects, all set to run until mid-February 2026. With more studios joining compared to the inaugural round, the total investment behind this cycle increases significantly.

The selection process was highly competitive. More than 300 applicants vied for a spot, and the chosen studios represent a blend of international and local teams who see the Kingdom as a serious gateway for launching globally competitive titles. Alongside funding, they gain hands-on support across product development, publishing, and fundraising.

AI sits at the heart of Cohort 2’s direction. Exel is pushing teams to embed artificial intelligence deeply into their games and workflows, spanning design, development, live ops, and business processes—turning emerging tech into a core advantage rather than an afterthought.

This momentum builds directly on the success of Cohort 1. Earlier this year, 17 graduating startups received an additional $300,000 in catalyst funding, positioning Exel as one of the most influential accelerators in the region’s gaming landscape.

A spokesperson for Exel described the program as a decisive edge for founders, a place where focused execution meets ambitious vision, and where the Kingdom’s gaming future is already taking shape.

Looking ahead, Exel plans to open applications for Cohort 3 in April 2026, with anticipation already rising for the next wave of studios set to join.
