The Games of the Future (GOTF) 2026 has officially announced that the legendary fighting game FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves will serve as the digital component for the Phygital Fighting competition in Astana, Kazakhstan, featuring a $500,000 prize pool. Scheduled for August 7–8, 2026, at the “Qazaqstan” Athletics Sports Complex, this event combines elite MMA bouts with high-stakes digital gameplay. This hybrid format represents a direct shift from calculated gaming to real-world physical impact, drawing on the heritage of SNK’s iconic franchise to anchor one of the most intense disciplines in modern phygital sports.
FATAL FURY: City of the Wolves brings decades of competitive history and a massive global community to the digital stage, providing a foundation built on timing-driven combat and iconic characters. William Al-Badeesh of Phygital International noted that including such a recognized title reinforces the event’s position at the intersection of sport and entertainment. Naoto Mori from SNK Corporation expressed excitement over the partnership, highlighting how the tournament’s expansion brings significant changes to the gaming industry by merging esports with physical competition in a way never seen before.
The Phygital Fighting discipline returns to the GOTF roster following a highly successful debut at the 2025 Games in Abu Dhabi, which garnered 27.7 million views and thousands of daily attendees. It is one of eight confirmed disciplines for the 2026 edition in Astana, joining other popular categories like Phygital Football, Basketball, Racing, and Robot Battles. While specific team rosters and broadcast details are expected to be revealed in the coming weeks, the inclusion of the SNK title ensures a high level of competition for the participating athletes.
The Games of the Future is an annual international event managed by Phygital International, acting as the pinnacle of the phygital movement, where the next generation of heroes competes across diverse challenges. SNK, the developer behind the chosen title, is a multi-entertainment company with nearly 50 years of history and over 200 titles, including The King of Fighters and Metal Slug. The 2026 tournament in Astana will run from July 29 to August 11, hosting over 900 participants from 50 different countries as it continues to redefine the boundaries of traditional and digital sports.
